Testing the Hypothesis

Opportunity: Parking garages that track open spots incorrectly which creates a time consuming and frustrating experience for drivers to find parking

The who: The drivers finding parking spots (specifically in densely populated cities/locations in the US)
The what: Drivers are unable to find a parking spot without it being a hassle and time consuming for them
The why: The parking garage is nearly or completely full and there is not an effective process to determine which parking spaces are available in the parking garage

Interviews Analysis:

Based on the feedback given by the interviewees, the people who are in the current “who” is the group of individuals that have this need. One interviewee mentioned that they lived in the heart of Miami and that they experienced the issue more often than a driver who did not live in such a populated city. People sometimes end up fighting for a parking spot because of how difficult or limited it can be to find one.
In reference to the “what”, another interviewee mentioned that people who greatly experience this issue are people who have physical disabilities. Not only do they have to find a parking spot, but they have to spend more time finding a parking spot that is easier for them to get to their nearest location. It also depends on the level of patience of the individual and how much of in a rush they are in to find the spot. The parking garage issue may also depend on the location of the garage. The problem will be more evident in a metropolitan city than in a city where there are as not many inhabitants.
People will not perceive the same need the same way because it all depends on the condition of the individual’s situation. For instance, a person who is in a rush or in a bad mood will experience the issue differently than someone who is not. It also depends on the level of population and overcrowding of the parking garage’s location.

  1. Hi Ilana,
I hate when I'm trying to find a parking spot and the tracker isn't working correctly. This happens to me all the time at the Miami beach parking garage. I think a solution to this problem could be to have an employee working there at all times to prevent this from happening. Hopefully, this issue is resolved soon or in the near future.

  2. Hi Ilana,
I am glad interviewing your target population went well and gave you a new understanding of your product and idea. They give you amazing views on them that are outside the box. I think the problem mainly originates with selling your product to the places that will deal with the customers. Maybe selling the app or providing it for a fee to universities.

  3. Hi Ilana, great work on getting important feedback from your customers. The customers opinions matter so much because they are the ones that buy the product, so if they don't like it no money is made. Many times when they have ideas, they are actually ones that with the right professional help could improve the project. Of course there are times where the customers ideas aren't feasible because of money or technology, but it is good to try and make the customer happy.
