My Secret Sauce

1.     I am a very introspective person that is consistently analyzing my own thoughts and actions. I think this is my most favorable and important quality because it allows me to be aware of the things that are affecting me emotionally and improve upon those feelings. If there is something that is bothering me, I always take the time to figure out the reason behind my emotions and determine if it should bother me to that extent.

I am also an independent individual that knows how to handle my own decisions by myself and not wait for other people to make those decisions for me. Although I will listen to the people who truly care about me, I typically do not let my friends or even my family influence my decisions because I am one to want to make the judgement myself.  I think being able to stand on my own and not get swayed into what others are saying or doing gives me the opportunity to know myself and the things I value.

I am an honest person that will say it how it is and not fake the truth because I like authenticity and want to attract that. I also would not want people to “sugarcoat” things for me so I do not see the reason to do it to others. I also will have the tougher conversations with the people I love and care about because I want to improve the relationship and create positive change amongst ourselves. I remember I had one of these tough conversations with my mom that would put me in a very vulnerable state. I was scared as to how my mom was going to react because I did not want her to get defensive and have her turn the issue I was addressing into a lecture. After I had said how I was feeling, she did get a bit defensive and angry in the beginning but then she truly listened to what I was saying and apologized for how she was making me feel. My decision to have this honest and heartfelt conversation resulted in an even more open and loving relationship with my mother.

I am a very driven person that will overcome any obstacle that I face. I think dance has played a big factor in me being able to push through despite an injury, rejection, or criticism. I always work hard to accomplish my goals because I like feeling satisfied with myself when I do reach them. If I do face an obstacle that prevents me from reaching them, I always try to find alternatives to get to where I want to be or I look for opportunities elsewhere.

I am also a humble person that doesn’t seek pleasure or satisfaction by flaunting in front of others. I do not think I would be a content individual if I were to be too focused on trying to impress other people or make them like them. I think continuing to work hard for myself will help me reach success a lot quicker than displaying arrogance to other people.

Recordings:

In my first interview, the interviewee mentioned my independence and my drive to accomplish tasks. She admired how I am able to fail but that I continue to try until I become successful at whatever task I am trying to overcome. She also mentioned my ability to express what I feel and connect well with people emotionally.

In my second interview, the interviewee mentioned my drive, dedication, and determination to accomplish my goals. He also brought up my ability to collaboratively work well in a group.

In my third interview, the interviewee mentioned how caring I am towards my friends and family even though I may not show a lot of emotions at times. She also said that I very considerate and always try to make sure that nobody feels left out. She also said that I am funny and charismatic.

In my fourth interview, the interviewee mentioned my drive, compassion, and ability to be introspective. She mentions how my self-reflection allows me to learn lessons from my experiences and apply what I have learned to situations later on. She also brought up how people can depend on me to accomplish my tasks and volunteer to take additional tasks to help the group succeed.

In my fifth interview, the interviewee mentioned how driven I am and my ability to plan things ahead. They mentioned that these qualities were beneficial for an entrepreneur.

Reflect:

Based on my interviews, each individual said that I was very driven and goal-oriented. They mentioned that I was the type of person that would overcome any task issue and does not take no for an answer to heart. One thing I did not mention that an interviewee mentioned was my ability to work well in a collaborative group. I have always enjoyed working with people because I like listening to the perspectives and ideas of others. I think it is important to be able to really listen to peoples’ concerns and beliefs because people tend to respect my own opinions if they see that I care to hear about theirs. Another quality that I didn’t mention that two interviewees brought up is my ability to show compassion and consideration for other people. I think this is a result of me being able to listen to others and connect well with them on an emotional level.

Although all my interviewees were correct, there were some qualities that I did not think about initially because they probably were ones that I did not realize I had or focused a lot on. A lot of my interviewees saw me as compassionate and considerate which I thought to be true to a certain extent. I do know how to connect will with people on an emotional level and show empathy but I did not initially believe those would be the top traits that really defined me.

I would make corrections to my list by adding that I am a considerate and compassionate individual and getting rid of the humble trait that I initially put. I think these two traits create more of an impact on people and can grab their attention and respect if they see that I connect well with them.

  1. Hi Ilanna,
You did a great job conducting all of these interviews. I also believe that I am a considerate individual because I tend to help others out a lot and sometimes even complete their work before mine. Being considerate is a great trait nonetheless because what comes around goes around. We should be treated the same way we treat others. Overall, I believe you did an awesome job with this post!

  2. Hi Ilana,
I really liked reading your post, I feel like we have a lot of the same personality traits. Something I also experience during my interviews was being told I was caring even though I didn't initially recognize that trait in myself. It is very interesting to think about what we value in ourselves and what others value in us. Good post!
