Reading Reflection No.2

1.     The general theme of the book, The Argument of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users, is to provide readers with the beneficial tricks and insights to creating a strong and popular social media foundation. By using the bottom- up strategy, Guy Kawasaki focuses on helping people develop their social media profiles to promote their businesses.
2.     In my opinion, the book enhanced the topics I am learning in the class because they both touch on the importance of promoting and presenting oneself in a professional manner to attract a target audience. The book also mentions the effectiveness of blogging which is an activity that I have learned to do through this class. Blogging is a captivating and interactive way to get people interested because it allows them to read the other individual’s ideas and provide feedback for them to improve upon whatever they are trying to promote or develop.
3.     Based on the book, the exercise I would try to incorporate in this class is the development of one’s social media platform and maximizing the necessary tools to establish social media importance. I would want to utilize the bottom-up approach that Guy Kawasaki uses in the book and the tricks that he provides to see how impactful they are to create a compelling presence. Using such strategies will allow students to see how effective these skills are first hand and can use them to their advantage for their personal or professional development.

4.     My biggest surprise from reading the book was the idea of using one’s personal name and identity to promote their brand. Although that is where most social media influencers become popular, I do not necessarily agree with this because people still want to see someone who is intriguing and will provide some sort of benefit or interest to them. I think many of these influencers today do not focus on trying to rebrand themselves or do things that are inspiring which makes them uninteresting to me.

  1. I saw someone else that used that book and I find it very helpful and cool. Social media is such a powerful tool, and even at base entry it is very useful and has not cost. You could pay though to get even better use out of it and reach and affect more people. I think it is a very good source to use and that more people should us it than currently do.
