Napkin No.1

My name is Ilana Rodriguez and I am currently a second year Finance major at the University of Florida. Some of my talents include dancing and horseback riding. I have been dancing since I was three years old so I grew up in an environment in which artistry and freedom of expression were incorporated well into my life. Through my experiences with dance, I have learned to adapt into having an open mind and not being afraid of doing things that I may be intimidated to do. It has also allowed me to tap into creativity which has helped me with my minor in Innovation.

My business concept will play a convenient and effective role in my life when I have to look for an available parking spot in a busy area. It is always a hassle looking for a free parking space when I am in a rush or late to a certain occasion. My idea will help prevent and eliminate the issue of frustration and inconvenience for myself and many others who experience this problem whenever they have to park in a parking garage.

What am I offering: My service will help solve customers’ unmet needs by providing them with a reliable and efficient process of finding an available parking space in a nearly occupied parking garage. With the use of the Mark N’ Park app and the integrated electronic system of the parking garage, drivers no longer have to spend their time looking for an available spot. They will also not have trouble finding their cars when they return to the parking garage because the app records the parking space they are stationed in.

Who am I offering it to: My idea would be offered to heavily populated cities that are well-known tourist destinations and have busy business districts. Many of these locations are almost always packed which causes many people to keep driving around the city looking for a parking spot. Based on my responses from my interviews, many of them lived in South Florida and mentioned the struggles they had in trying to find available spots whenever they went to the heart of Miami. My service would also be beneficial for people with disabilities because they would not have to park far from the elevators so it’s not too far for them to walk to.

Why do they care: The people in charge of developing and approving the city’s construction development would pay to incorporate my idea because it would reduce traffic in the city and encourage more visitors to come to visit because they would not have to deal with the hassle of looking for a parking spot.

My core competencies: Although there are parking garages that have green and red lights hanging above the parking spaces to detect whether or not they are available, my idea is different from other garages because it assigns the driver a spot before they enter the garage. Once the driver parks their car, they download the free app, Mark N’ Park, to type in their parking spot location which allows both the driver and the computer system detect that the parking spot has been occupied.

Evaluation:
Overall, I believe these elements fit well together and provide the necessary needs and benefits for the consumer. Based on the previous interviews and my own personal experience, I know this is a common issue that many people face frequently whenever they are in a highly populated city or in places where there are few parking areas available. The only two aspects that I believe may be on the weaker side are that not all cities will need such parking garages because they aren’t as heavily populated and it may be a costly project. Working with city developers may be a long process as well to get it approved and get the system incorporated.
