Idea Napkin No.2
Who I am:
I am determined and a goal-driven individual who knows how to overcome any obstacles that I face. I know how to connect and collaborate well with people to get a specific task done. If I were to start my business, this would impact my personal life because I would be investing my time and money in trying to hire the right people for the job and developing a project that would be beneficially impactful for the people in the city.
What am I offering:
I am offering an app called Mark n’Park that is connected to a parking garage to make a more efficient and stress free environment for drivers to find available parking spaces. When drivers first drive into the parking garage, they will receive a ticket to an assigned parking spot so they do not have to spend time looking for availability. Once the driver parks into their spot, they download the Mark n’Park in which they can scan or manually input their parking spot’s information which also reduces the time they spend looking for their car since the app will have that information for them.
Who am I offering it to:
I am offering this idea to Gainesville city development and property management companies and the company in charge of UF parking because they are the ones who have existing parking garages and are experienced in that field. My customers all share a common goal in making a profit and reducing traffic congestion.
Why do they care:
They would invest in my idea because it would reduce traffic and would bring them a lot of visitors if people knew how simple and hassle free it is to find parking close and around campus. I know many parents that come to Gainesville to visit their kids have a hard time finding available parking spots so they end up parking their car in one location and walking to nearby areas for the rest of their trip.
My core competencies:
My service is unique because there are no parking garages that assign a driver a parking spot. I have seen parking garages that have green or red lights above the spaces to let the driver know if it is vacant or not, but I do not think there are as reliable as my system because they may not accurately show if it’s occupied. With my app, it makes it a lot easier for people to get a spot, find their car when they are leaving the garage, and it also lets people know if the garage is full before they get into the garage. This service would reduce traffic congestion and would bring in more visitors if they knew it were that easy to find a parking spot.
Five elements and Feedback:
I believe these elements fit better than when I initially did the napkin because I was not certain of my target segment. At first, I was going to target college students and families but then I realized that they would not be my true audience because they would not be the ones that would help implement or allow my project to go through. Although they all agreed that my idea would be beneficial for them, I was not receiving much criticism or the the feedback I needed to push my idea through. Instead, I decided to change my target segment to city developers, the property management companies of surrounding apartment complexes, and UF’s Transportation and Parking Services because they have experience in that field and would connect me with the right people to build such a project. Other than altering my target segment, I also decided to just focus more on pitching the app itself and incorporating it into already existing parking garages in Gainesville because it would be more cost-effective than building a whole new parking garage with the system. The idea can also be used in highly populated cities that have high traffic congestion and limited parking due to such a great number of people.
Dear Ilana,
ReplyDeleteI think this is a very good idea about parking. Before reading this, I actually had no idea how parking plays a role in creating traffic in certain areas and how an app such as yours fixes this problem. It would make finding a spot a lot easier and could help certain people not be late. Hopefully this works because there a lot of people who are attempting what you are doing.
Hi Ilana,
ReplyDeleteI like how you showed the other non-immediate effects your idea can solve with efficient parking. A lot of people would see more value in it, like those that usually walk or ride a bike and want to eliminate traffic. Maybe parents that know how annoying it is to find parking will also find value in it. Overall I think there is a possibility of it working as long as UF does not shut it down for its own self benefit, which tends to happen alot.
