Halfway Reflection

Halfway Reflection

1.     In order to keep up with the requirements of this course, I made sure to write down all the assignments that were going to be due in my planner at the beginning of the semester. I have always been organized and disciplined myself to keep track of the assignments.  I also make sure that I watch the lectures on time and take notes so that I will be prepared enough for the weekly quizzes.

2.     A time where I felt like giving up was when I applied for an internship that I really wanted and I did not end up getting it. I did not see the purpose in trying to apply for other internships because of the rejection. However, I realized that there were more opportunities out there for me and other companies that would be interested in what I have to offer so I continued to apply and eventually got an interview.

I personally have always had a tenacious attitude so I do not think I have really developed it recently. I think a lot of it has to do with me being exposed to rejection through my personal experiences or professional career. Since I have been dancing at the age of three, I was always exposed to moments in which I did not get a lead role or did not place first in a competition so it definitely pushed me to improve to get to where I wanted to be.

3.     Three tips I would offer to next semester’s student is to acknowledge the areas in which they can improve, to not take criticism personally and see that criticism as an opportunity to improve, and to maintain a sense of purpose and passion for the idea they want to cultivate.

  1. Hi Ilana,
I have also had to learn to take criticism in this course. It can be hard when we have our ideas evaluated by classmates or strangers during the surveys but like you said it is a opportunity to grow. I hope when I'm finished with this class that instead of being discouraged I can be more certain in my future business ideas.

  2. Dear Ilana,

These are really good tips. I've applied to a lot of internships this semester and have not gotten a response from lots of them. It did discourage me at the beginning and also did not see the point of applying to more. I did however, keep trying and eventually got one for this summer as I did not want to be in Gainesville for the summer. I was tenacious and I kept trying because it was something that I really wanted. But I understand that it is humbling to find that for the first time in your life, a rejection shows you that you are like everyone else. It is not a good feeling.

  3. Hey Ilana, Great post. I really like the three tips you gave to those coming in next semester, they are extremely helpful. For a person to be able to look at themselves and recognize what they need to work on and be able to fix it on their own is an extremely important trait in life. It is also very important to learn from constructive criticism and not let it knock you down.
